• Wet weather gear for pupils

  Dear parents,
  Pupils have golden time now on a Friday afternoon. This is what they have chosen for a reward for achieving our school values this year.
  Nursery and reception have asked to continue with prizes. At the end of the term the number of times a pupil has been rewarded with a prize will result in their name added to a tombola and the possibility of being selected for a bigger prize.
  
  As they choose what they would like to do on the day our Forest School option is available. This means the pupils can be making something on the firepit , weeding, planting or harvesting as well as constructing dens. Please could I ask for a donation of these items specifically:
  Wellington boots, zip up all over wet weather gear like salopettes (like skiing). Heavy duty waterproof trousers and coats not normal coats as the pupils will have those. In a range of sizes please. We can keep them in school then and when they choose it does not have to be weather permitting.

• Sharing a video recording outside of school

  We have been part of a video recording done by Atkins. Atkins are a company of civil engineers supporting our school at the moment with scientific resources and lessons. Pupils made wind turbines and many other constructing opportunities during the video on that day. One of our school governors works in a senior capacity with company. The video is already available on 'you tube' but not the full version as permission has not been sought. No pupils where parents have indicated on their registration paperwork (when pupil started school you don't want photos or videos taken of your child.) were involved in this recording.

  The company would like to share the full video with other schools in Wales to promote the work they are doing. If you do not want your child to be part of this could you let us know and we will ask to have the video edited before it is shared. Please let us know before 21st May if you have any problems.

• Free School Meals Y2

  Dear Parent/Guardian

  FREE SCHOOL MEALS AVAILABLE FROM 17th APRIL FOR ALL PUPILS UP TO Y2.

  Full time Nursery and Reception children have been offered a free school meal Since January 2023 Year 1 pupils have also been offered a UPFSM.

  Following the successful roll-out of the previous phases, we are pleased to inform you that from the start of the new term in April 2023, all Year 2 pupils will also be offered a UPFSM.

  YOU MUST inform the school of any special dietary requirements before the 24th March. This is to ensure that we order what is necessary for your child before the start date.

• Autumn Term Disco

  Our Autumn disco this year will be held on Monday 24th October.

  Foundation phase straight from school till 4pm £2.50 including drinks, sweets and crisps.

  Key stage 2 will be 4.15pm till 5.15pm £1.50 entry, with sweets, drinks and pop on sale.

  Parents do not have to accompany younger pupils, they will go to the disco with their teachers.

  Pupils can wear their disco clothes to school that day.

• Attendance

  We are asking for your support with school attendance at the moment. We have to report our figures to Welsh government again following COVID, as there is no longer any requirement to isolate unless you have symptoms.

  If your child is ill, please could we ask, that if giving them some medicine at lunch and in the morning allows them to attend, that they attend school.

  So much education has been missed due to the pandemic that we need your help to ensure these pupils leave primary school literate and numerate. Currently attendance for Reception and Y3 is dramatically lower than average for Wales, under 80%. For all other classes we are not achieving over 88% every week. Primary schools are expected to have an attendance level of at least 94%.

  As previously, we will require medical evidence for any appointments or sickness and explanations for lateness, as this too brings attendance levels down.

  These are exciting times where we are able to be really creative with our curriculum as you can see by some of the animals in school this week. Please ensure your child experiences this by being in school. These are memories that they will cherish forever and time they will not get back.

• HEALTHY SNACK TIME

  Your children have chosen the foods that they think are healthy to eat at snack time.

  Please could you help us by ensuring that he or she brings in a healthy snack:

  baby bell cheese, yoghurt, fruit , vegetables, cereal bar and fruit in packets are some of their ideas.

• Update

  Due to the high temperatures this week and various activities going on inside and outside school , it is more important than ever that the children come to school with hats, sunglasses and sun-cream. They also need to bring water bottles that they can refill.

  Please note reports will come home on Thursday this week with your child. School finishes at normal time on Friday. We return to school Monday 5th September.

• Y6 SWIMMING FUN DAY

  Year 6 Parents

  Don't forget the swimming fun day on Wednesday with inflatables, all children need their bathes, towel and a pack lunch. After lunch there will be afternoon activities in the sports hall - inflatable snatch and grab slide , giant game of hungry hippos, and treasure island. so please wear appropriate clothing and footwear.
